From Soccer Superstar to Design Extraordinaire?

I was reading my Vogue UK news and was surprised to hear that David Beckham was launching his H&M Bodywear collection today! Since when did he become a fashion designer? Did he do 4 years of labour intensive design school and years of unpaid interning while concurring the soccer (or should I say football) field?

I had to post this one from his new Bodywear collection.
It is an ongoing trend for celebrities to start their own fashion labels or guest star as a “designer” for a label and I have to say I am not a fan.  On a positive note, their labels sell because of all the star gazed customers that want whatever the celebs have. But, is it fair to all the hard working designers that struggled for years to get where they are now? I don’t blame us consumers for wanting to look like the celebrities modeling their own collection; I mean have you seen how hot David Beckham looks in his H&M sweatpants? But I think we should acknowledge the team of professionals that must have to help out so that their creations can actually be constructed.

Fair JAKE is still young so we don’t have to compete with all the celebrity lines as of yet but hopefully in a year or two or five we will have people lining up for our latest collection!

What do you all think? Are you a supporter of the celebrity turned fashion designer trend or not?
