One of my favourite things to do, as I have written about in previous posts, is to go see live music. The sheer joy and energy built up from a good show is enough to last you a week. And watching musicians play their instrument of choice is jaw dropping at times; as someone who can barely clap to the beat, I really appreciate their talent.
So what better way to spend your free time than to go to a music festival! There are festivals all over the world that people travel far and wide to attend and we Vancouverites happen to be close to quite a few.
I have been to Sasquatch Music Festival a few times now and am always guaranteed to have the best time, baking in the sun (not always the greatest if sunstroke gets you) camping with friends, making new friends, and most importantly listening to live music for 3.5 straight days. I am always game to check out Squamish Music Festival, Bumbershoot, The Folk Festival, and The Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival, all of which are at most a 3 hour drive away.
Now don't get me wrong, they can tend to cost a pretty penny, but if you get on the pre-sale lists you can usually get a decent price and let's be honest, you are definitely getting your bang for your buck. Plus instead of spending money on separate concert tickets you get a 20 in one sort of deal and usually you are introduced to some new music you may not have known of before.
The camaraderie of festival folk is something else, not these anti-social Vancouverite personalities I keep hearing about but sharing, loving, happy people. That alone is bound to heighten your spirits. That, and all the vitamin D from being outside in the SUN.
Below are a list of festivals happening close by from now (this weekend is Sasquatch...people are probably drinking in anticipation of some great shows as i post this) to Labour day weekend at Bumbershoot (another great U.S. festival)
If you don't already have tickets, here's hoping that one of the listed festivals suits your tastes and that it's not already sold out!
